Aston Villa Football Club

Aston Villa was founded by Jack Hughes, Frederick Matthews, Walter Price and William Scattergood in 1987. Throughout the team's history they've had periods of both of success and failure. AVFC started out successfully, winning many championships under Captain Archie Hunter. Aston Villa's biggest accomplishment has been winning the UEFA Champions League title match against Bayern Munich in 1982. The team's worst years were during the late sixties till the early seventies when they got relegated all the way down to the Third Division, and were not able to get back to First Division till 1972. During those hard times Aston Villa FC changed management and coaching many times. Currently Aston Villa is in 6th in the English Premier League and is under the ownership of Randy Lerner.

Aston Villa: The Ultimate Comeback Team

Aston Villa Football Club has been able to come back from being a Third Division team to a First Division team, which is something that not every club team can do. It took them eight management changes to finally find the one coach, Ron Saunders that could take the team back to the elite status. Ever since then the team has been in the First Division.

Aston Villa in the 2008/2009 Season

Although the expectations for Aston Villa this season are not high as they are for other Premier League teams such as Chelsea or Manchester United, the squad is still expected to finish in the top ten. The Lions made some drastic improvements in the off season, which will help them function better as a unit and finish higher in the League rankings then last season. They also aspire to win the Carling Cup and the UEFA Cup this season and hope those transfers will work out.

One of the players that Martin O’Neal signed to the Aston Villa squad was right back Luke Young who will help defend the goal along with the squads newly signed American goalie Brad Friedel. While on the offensive side of the field, Steve Sidewell and Carlos Cuellar will be working well together to score points for the squad. However, the biggest expectation for Aston Villa comes from midfield James Milner, who is known for his quick speed, creating scoring opportunities and taking the ball past the best defenders in the league. This upcoming season he will be working closely with Cuellar to get goals for Aston Villa FC.

Villa has started out strong this year, with a best place of 4th in the Premier League table. The Villains defeated rivals Tottenham and their newly acquired Russian superstar Pavluchenko.
